PRESS RELEASE
Okanagan
Valley - Tired of your kids playing on the computer and not spending enough time on their homework? Some B.C. teachers may
have just come up with the answer.
Okanagan high school teachers are preparing to launch live online
tutoring classes this September to help both students
and schools. "The great advantage of providing
these online educational services is that it can help students
regardless of their geographic location."
says Trevor Knowlton, developer of
Live Teacher.
"Students can have access to the same educational
opportunities regardless of their location or situation. If a student is living in a smaller
community or is unable to attend regular school
classes this service can provide them
with online support to be
successful." Knowlton says this service can
also help students outside of British Columbia. "We can provide professional online educational services to
students anywhere in Canada,
all they need is a computer."
Live Teacher will provide students the ability to
simply log on from their home computer and receive school help from a professional B.C. teacher.
"Starting in September we are excited to have Mr.
Gupta who, along with his Masters Degree and
14 years teaching experience, will keep the students engaged and
has a great understanding of this
technology", says Knowlton.
To begin, Live Teacher will be providing half-hour
live classes for all B.C. students who are taking Math 9 and Science 10 and as more students learn about the service, the range of courses will expand.
"These sessions will provide students the extra help they need to
excel with their classroom work and on Provincial Exams."
Live Teacher will also provide a library of
short video lessons taught by British Columbia
teachers, each covering a specific topic that students
need to learn.
LiveTeacher.ca will use a number of different techniques to provide the students with an educational and fun experience.
"With the development of online video technology it was a natural progression to start providing an educational service such as this, similar to an interactive
educational TV channel specific to the coursework that
students are working on."
Knowlton says another advantage of this internet technology is that
students can receive school help at any time. "Students are often busy with after-school sports or part-time jobs and parents have their own work schedules. This can make it difficult for students to attend regular tutoring sessions or receive extra school help.
Live Teacher is available 24/7 to help students with both live and recorded video lessons, no matter where and when they need it."
The Live Teacher service will
launch for the 2009/2010 school year. For more information on this tutoring service and to watch
